One of my favorite things in the world is when it rains. For a long time I never understood why. Things close down, outdoor activities are canceled and the pace of life completely slows. What I discovered, at least for me, it’s a window of peace that a rainstorm brings. It allows me to be in my body and use all my senses.
The cool breeze of wind and the dampness of the air lightly brushing across your skin. The sound of rain as it hits the roof and trickles down a gutter. The way its intensity and frequency changes as the storm swells and softens. Seeing droplets of water drip off of bird feeders and bead on flowers. The ripples in puddles from the ongoing rain. And the smell of rain. Earthy and bright. It's like you can taste the trees, the grass and the earth.
It's the closest I feel to actually being in the present moment.
The other reason I think I love the rain so much is for a moment I feel understood. For a moment the whole world feels sad. I feel seen and heard and there is finally something else that knows true depths of pain. Understands the aches of loneliness and sadness. The world cries with you and it all happens without saying a word.
Most times we avoid uncomfortable feelings and do things to keep ourselves busy. Force ourselves to run and not look at what's just underneath the surface. I think it's important to have those sad days. Let emotions flow and feel what needs to be felt. It’s incredibly healing.
It's also important to remember that emotions are very much like the rainstorms I love. They ebb and flow and change in intensity over time but with all things, the emotions will pass. The rain will stop and the sun will come out again.
The world is a more vibrant and beautiful place with you in it.
Even if you don't end up purchasing anything. I appreciate you stopping by to take a look and I hope this helped you in some way. Good luck, I am rooting for you.
Sincerely,
Ryan Schmid - "Be Good, Do Good"
