It's a cliche saying but it holds an immense amount of truth. "For every door that closes, another one opens." It can be seen many ways. Closing out of certain cycles. Lost opportunities that lead to new ones. Relationships that end that open up the possibility to meet your person or people.
If you follow the spiritual side of things a door closing aka rejection can actually be protection in disguise. Rejection is protection even when it doesn't feel like it. Someone is looking out for you and guiding you for what is truly meant for you.
For my non spiritual or skeptical folks Jocko Willink talks about this situation quite frequently and his motto..."GOOD." Didn't get the job promotion, GOOD, now you know what you need to work on and can be ready the next time a promotion comes available. You get the flu, GOOD, it's your body telling you, you needed to rest. You get fired from your job, GOOD, now you can dedicate more time to a passion project you've been putting off.
I think it is also how we respond to the door closing is also important. Some people stand in silence, some run away as fast as they can, some people keep knocking and some see it as a blessing.
Taking a note from Jocko, I think it's prudent to list a real life example of one door closing leads to another door opening and since it is early October and I happen to be a Brewers fan I am going to use a baseball example.
Take Brewers first basement Andrew Vaughn. He was a 1st round draft pick for the White Sox's, rose through the minors quickly and started out hot in the majors. As time went on and the organization changed he fell off statistically and got demoted to the minors. The proverbial door closes. Wouldn't you know it mid season the Milwaukee brewers were in need of a first basemen, saw his potential, and made a trade. New door opens. Makes his way up through the minors again and gets his chance. In his first at bat in a Brewers uniform, against the Dodgers and a game I was at, he crushes a home run, starting a franchise record setting 14 game win streak and helps the team finish with the best record in baseball.
If you are in the hallway, keep walking till the right door shows itself.
Sincerely,
