Outside of our vision is a version of ourselves we rarely see. It hides out of sight but is always with us. It moves when we move. Breathes when we breathe. Yet it's still there when the lights go out. It stays awake even in our sleep. This is no ordinary shadow. Left untamed it will haunt you in your dreams.

This shadow represents all the things we choose to hide. The things we run from in fear. The things we don't think we are strong enough to face. This shadow is a fickle being as it will also hide things from our conscious mind. Things locked away to protect us and help us survive. Things we are not allowed access to for our own safety.

The only way to face your shadow is to look inward and stare into its depths. Then shine your light. Illuminate its branches with love, kindness and forgiveness. It won't be easy. It never is. Shining light on the parts of us that we dislike or are ashamed of takes extreme effort and emotional currency.

Sometimes it even takes guidance from another person. Shadow work, as it is often referred to, is a daunting task and like any journey hiring a sherpa to climb the mountain is an excellent idea. They know the path, the dangers and the pitfalls. They know the equipment you need, when to rest and when to push. More importantly they help hold the light.

I am a big advocate for mental health services. Whether that's a licensed therapist, a support group, animal therapy, etc. You will be able to find an option that works for you out of the many great modalities available.

It takes courage to ask for help. . It takes courage to admit there is a problem and it takes incredible strength to walk the path of healing and face your shadow. In some ways it can feel like going to war with yourself. Your healing vs. your ego. If you talk to people that have been in war and ask them if they were scared, they usually say of course they were and anyone that said they weren't was probably lying or insane.

Walk the path, face the shadow, heal. I will help hold the light. I am rooting for you. Keep going.

Even if you don't end up purchasing anything. I appreciate you stopping by to take a look and I hope this helped you in some way. Good luck, I am rooting for you.

Sincerely,

Ryan Schmid - "Be Good, Do Good"
